This piece depicts a Hmong man in a village in the mountains of Laos. It was inspired by the stories my mother spoke about her life while she lived in Laos prior to resettling in the USA. In this piece, I wanted to illustrate the village she was born in. The man plays the qeej, a bamboo pipe instrument. At the end of the harvest season, Hmong men and women dress in their best outfits to celebrate the Hmong New Year. Song of Our Heritage presents a happy and peaceful time.
